most content around starting a business or side hustle falls into one of two camps:
Camp 1: side hustle crew
They are all about driving for uber, garage sales and joining the outsourced economy as a cog in the wheel.
While that works well for people with no opportunity costs for their time, if you have a decent career it just doesn't make sense to sell your time in a different way and make way less than you do at work. So you stay stuck.
Camp 2: Startup camp
This is all about burning the boats, raising venture capital and going all in on a huge idea that will hopefully revolutionize the world.
But all along the way, you're starving and you don't really know if you made the right decision until five years down the road, which again, is too risky for most people that have something that's pretty decent going on.
Both camps fail for people that make decent money and aren’t total risk junkies. Side hustles lack leverage and startups lack cash flow that goes to the owner.
As a lawyer, I tried a bunch of side hustles that never got off the ground. Real estate flipping, instagram hacks and anything else that looked like a shortcut.
Then I went all in on an entertainment startup, quit my biglaw job and moved my family across the country to build the business.
After six months of building, I hadn’t received a single distribution check, we were living in my in-laws basement and it was becoming increasingly clear that I wasn't going to be able to pay for my daughter's Christmas.
So my wife and I sat down and decided we had to do something fast. Something that we could do in a weekend, that could make a thousand bucks in a day without selling our time.
I created a systematic approach, called a side bet, that allowed me to prove the idea and test the business model quickly. And it worked.
We got it up and running over the weekend and in a month we were doing 1k a day and within a year that grew to a $90,000 month business that still exists to this day.

I think it’s fair to say that these Side Bets have completely changed my life.
And I fundamentally believe that if you take it seriously, and figure out how to launch, grow, and sell something that doesn’t require your time or having to go all in on something.
